At Last the day has come, After 12 years, Microsoft is finally ending all support and updates for Windows XP.

“ Microsoft has provided support for Windows XP for the past 12 years. But now the time has come for us, along with our hardware and software partners, to invest our resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that we can continue to deliver great new experiences. ” announced by Microsoft in an official announcement.

windows xp support ends

Earlier this year, Microsoft had informed windows XP users about its plan for bringing an end to the operating system and requested everyone to upgrade from the operating system which was literally on life support.

Launched on October 25, 2001, Windows XP was one of the best operating systems that Microsoft has ever developed. In its lifetime Windows XP had received more than three service pack updates. However after April 2009, Microsoft had stopped proving free technical support and warranty claims for the OS, which was an early signal for microsoft plans to put an end to the operating system.

Although with the end of support for Windows XP, the OS will not cease instantly, As long as you have the OS installed on your computer, you will be able to use it. However as the time goes by the OS will become more prone to vulnerabilities, malware and other security risks.

Fortunately Microsoft has provided a grace time period for windows XP users to upgrade to newer windows operating systems. For a limited time after the end of support for windows XP, Microsoft will still be offering anti malware signature updates for Microsoft security essentials. So those of you who are still using windows XP, you need to act quick and upgrade to a newer operating system as soon as possible.

After all change is inevitable and Microsoft leaves us with no other option apart from embracing changes, Which in this case is Microsoft’s latest offering Windows 8. Along with Windows XP, Microsoft is also ending the support for Office 2013.
